Who does what
The roles behind a Clarksville roof job
Not photographs and job titles. The actual sequence of people who touch your roof between your first phone call and the final magnet sweep.
We do not publish invented staff biographies, because plenty of roofing websites do and almost none of them are true. What follows is the honest structure: the roles involved, in the order you encounter them.
- Whoever picks up at two in the morning
- Calls are answered around the clock, which in the small hours means an assistant takes your address, what the roof is doing and whether water is actively coming in, then flags it. A person rings you back. In a county where the storms arrive at night, an answering machine would be useless.
- The person who calls you back
- They work out what you actually need and when you need it. If you have a PCS date, a closing date or a lender waiting on a certification, this is the conversation where you say so, and where you get a straight answer about whether it fits.
- The estimator on your roof
- They climb it. They check the field of the shingles, every valley, every penetration, the flashing at each wall and chimney, the ridge and the drip edge, and where it can be reached they go into the attic, because leaks and ventilation faults announce themselves from underneath first. They photograph all of it, including whatever is sound.
- Whoever writes the scope
- The photographs become an itemised written sheet: materials by name, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, the per-sheet decking rate, disposal, the permit. It is written so that you can lay it beside another roofer's sheet and compare line against line rather than total against total.
- The person who files the permit
- Replacements in Clarksville and Montgomery County go through the Building Codes Department at $0.38 a square foot, minimum $25, pulled before anything is torn off. Addresses across the state line or in the neighbouring counties go to their own authority, confirmed first rather than assumed.
- The crew
- Independent contractors carrying general liability and workers' compensation cover, holding the Tennessee licence that the size of the job requires. They tear off, open up and replace soft decking rather than covering it, fit new flashing rather than reusing the old, and nail to the manufacturer's specification because the wind warranty depends on it.
- Whoever walks it at the end
- Someone checks the finished roof, runs the magnet over the yard twice, and leaves you the permit number, the manufacturer's warranty registration and the workmanship warranty in writing. Then they go, which is the part that matters.
- And in year four
- The same number still rings here. That is the entire argument for using somebody with a Clarksville address instead of a crew that was passing through after the hail.
Want to check any of it? Ask for the licence name and search it yourself at verify.tn.gov, and ring the Building Codes Department on 931-648-5718 about any permit. We would genuinely rather you did. Anything you want to ask a person directly, ring (931) 410-6271 or write to hello@clarksvilleroofco.com.
